Captain Bert Felton welcomes you aboard SOLOMON T.
He is licensed for commercial purposes by the US Coast Guard and is a member of American Professional Captains Association. Captain Felton has completed hundreds of river tours aboard his sturdy North Carolina built workboat. As a young man he spent time in Chesapeake Bay and the Morehead City / Beaufort / Cape Lookout area as well as Brunswick County beaches.
For a number of years he was the eighteenth century maritime historian at Brunswick Town—Fort Anderson State Historic Site. During those years he had the opportunity to work on masted tall ships with ELIZABETH II (16th century), ENDEAVOUR (18th century), and PRIDE OF BALTIMORE (19th century) being outstanding examples. As a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Bert secured a billet on EAGLE, the CG Academy cadet training ship, during the summer of 2007. Captain Felton is a past Commander of Flotilla 10-05 Southport. He enjoys weaving together stories of the lower Cape Fear, traditional workboats, Southport, water birds, marine life, and the remarkable individuals that make maritime heritage come alive.
On many passages a crew person will assist the captain and the passengers. Becky, the wife of the captain, works the deck as her schedule allows. Both Bert and Becky are long time members of the Southport Historical Society and the Caswell Beach Turtle Watch. On two occasions the Feltons have worked as Lighthouse Keepers at Rose Island in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island
